Who We Are Self-Determination Wisconsin supports an informal coalition of organizations and individuals actively working towards making self-determination and self-directed services a reality throughout Wisconsin. With support from the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities, the Self-Determination Coalition has been meeting and working together since January 2006. In addition to individuals with disabilities and families, organizations represented include: Aging and Disability Resource Centers
Self-Determination Wisconsin Consultants/Trainers Dennis Harkins has worked for many years in Wisconsin and across North America on helping self-determination and self-directed supports become a reality for people who need long-term support. As a former State Director of Services to People with Developmental Disabilities in Wisconsin, Dennis has a wealth of experience in working with state and local long-term care, education and vocational rehabilitation agencies on systems and policy reform, as well as supporting individuals with disabilities and their families to help create and access those reforms. Naomi Silver has taught workshops in legislative advocacy for people with disabilities throughout Wisconsin. She has also been involved with the creation of Self-Directed Supports policy within the Wisconsin Long Term Care Reform efforts Naomi has a Master's Degree in Family and Parent Education. She works with parents, advocates, and professionals to help deepen their understanding of Self-Determination and the utilization of self directed supports in our current long term care system. |
